So what is the marker that we should be looking at to tell this is a fake?

Very mushy details despite looking to be in mint condition. Shape of the date. Font of the letters in the legend. Plus all the red flags mentioned in the OP.

Some people are just too polite - get stiffed with a fake coin and the worst you can do is leave neutral feedback? Good grief, what would have to happen before you leave negative feedback!?

Well when I look at that 1914 quarter, that looks like it's been polished to be a mirror, does the buyer really thinking he's getting the deal of the century? Con artists always use greed against their victims.....too many eBayers think they are going to score a bargain against an unwitting seller...that's why people go garage sailing, scour flea markets etc.....they deserve to be fleeced.

The 1914 is a Chinese counterfeit, absolutely no doubt. The pics of the 1923 are too poor to be 100% certain, likely a counterfeit, at minimum it's a coin with major problems. Can't believe someone would pay a high AU price based on those pics.

The word CANADA seems to close to the edge to me as well as the A's on the bottom don't look quite right either.

I reported the 1923 small cent a few days back, it is definitely fake. Looks like it sold anyways.

to be able to judge a coin completely, you need to be able to have it in the hand. they sure did a nice job on the 1914..

I keep looking at this 1901 5 cent and I am reasonably sure it is fake too. The fuzzy picture makes it difficult to make out, but the serifs on the letters look wrong and it has that same weird grainy/proof look to it.. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Canada-1901-...em487490325e

RE 1901 5c- Not sure if it's fake or not but wonder why the pictures are so blurry. Most of his pictures are pretty sharp. His "Dad" must have had a big collection. He's been selling them for over 3 years on ebay.

That 1901 is lustrous and breathtaking "at first glance" ..and probably would have fooled me ..on the quick take.. It's semi mirror fields dragged me in. ..
I wasn't in the bid though,..this posting brought this coin to my attention..
Thanks for constantly bringing these to the forefront for us..

I couldn't find the 'newfie" fakes thread that I saw a few days back but here is another. http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Superbe-copi...em23462fd71dIn this case the seller admits it to being a copy but one hates to have this stuff around. Is it possible to start a separate sub forum for these? I find ebay reacts quicker to volume complaints.

I think it would be a great idea to have a sub forum, for threads on fake coins. Here's why, new comers could find the information easily. All topics old or new would be in 1 place easy to search for the older discussions as they're not mixed with other threads. When wanting to discuss fake coins it's all in one area. It become a very good go to source. Now where to put it? Would it be strictly for Canadian coins ? Better yet a separate sub forum for all fake coins. It would be a super resource, if there were questions on any world coin.
It's very impressive over 1,000 daily posts. I never thought it got so high.
