The following is a press release from NGC
NGC-Has-Certified-The-Eric-P-Newman-Collection-Part-V

NGC was once again enlisted to grade selections from the extraordinary collection of 103-year-old American numismatic researcher and writer Eric P. Newman. The fifth installment of the collection comprises nearly 1,000 coins and boasts a variety of exceedingly rare and high-grade US Colonial, Territorial and Federal issues.

These selections build upon the phenomenal Colonial and Post-Colonial pieces previously offered in Part IV. Included are a remarkable six high-grade Continental Dollars, five significant 1792 Washington pieces, a 1776 New Hampshire copper, four rare Confederation coppers and many more outstanding pieces.

Also featured in Newman Part V are several superlative gold coins, including the finest known 1867 Double Eagle, graded NGC MS 66, and two dozen Territorial gold pieces.

The first four parts of the Eric P. Newman Collection, all of which have been certified by NGC, have achieved more than $45 million at auction. Part V will be offered by Heritage Auctions November 14â€"15. To view the catalog and bid, visit HA.com

I have not heard of Eric Newman until now. So scary how he once owned all 5 1913 V nickels... It's so scary (in a good way) how much power he had. He was the setter of the market. He had all the control of what the V nickels sell for and when to show it to others. Essentially, he is the king of numismatics.

Ah ha, got me for a minute. I was thinking this isn't new, but - this is the "fifth installment" of this collection. Such amazing coins! Here's a coin with that label from a Heritage auction last year:

No, I didn't bid.

He was the fourth (and last) person to own all five of them. Eventually he kept the finest one and the sale of the others was handled by another dealer.

What amazes me is that he owned SIX Continental Dollars. That has to be a significant number of the total known specimens. Even major collections seldom have one, Ford had two, Newman had at least six!
