For those who are MNA members compare this piece to my September 2013 MNA Journal Chihuahua article specimen #3. We see blurred motifs on both examples, a low weight: 22.4 (JPL Journal Plate Coin #3) & 23.2 this E-Bay specimen) - weight in grams, and therefore a debased alloy composition as my specimen was XRF verified. Yes there are both dated 1813's. So far this is the only year seen with these diagnostics. Same dies and die maker? when comparing both images ... a strong MAYBE. Don't get me wrong here Ralf Bopple - this is a good thing <BG>. Another legitimate debased Ag era piece or simply another contemporary counterfeit. On my specimen the piece had a good gold signature level of 0.1% suggesting period silver and not a later 20thC forgery.

Hum, a bit expensive, I would have jumped for it.
There was also mine, which seemed to have a copper core (and smooth edge - that's at least sure :D )

Matt - no way to determine if contemporary counterfeit or regal. Interesting piece. My piece from MCC was $100. Check also this seller has a holed 1811 Chihuahua that they say has no colonial edge - plain edge? Still to respond from my inquiry. See ebay next week Sunday night under my ebay ID: johnmenc for a KOOL plain edge piece. Not really for sale just for show ... HIGH RESERVE. I do that occasionally.

Just saw that you were following numis_coinsmex on ebay ...
That guy is selling a bunch of fakes, morellos now, and it's not the first time.
I just listed it on our facebook group, I was a bit mad of to list his coins over and over - he has super morellos 4 (four) reales ...

Strange being from Durango ... but you are right. Even that Sud Copper with the Morelos C/S is modern? ... although the host looks good. It will be interesting at the MNA what counterfeits turn up ... I mean the good and bad ones ... maybe I can volunteer at the counterfeit table just in case a bag of Kleebergs turn up ... <LOL>.

Hehe :D If you find some nice CCF, feel free to buy me a couple at a nice discount :P
I'm still looking for a nice sample (I won't collect those particularly, but I love the history behind them).

Yes, his silver Morellos are all fake, and I have doubts on the copper one ... (but am unsure).
It's not the first time he sells crap, the strange thing is that he seems to have genuine coins in the middle of those.
Maybe he just resells an old collection without knowing what it is ...

They look DULL like German Silver forgeries ... to be honest Matt other than Kleebergs I have no idea YET what are good Mexican colonials counterfeits ... there is no information yet on what are desirable co-circulating contemporary with any accuracy from any author in this realm other than Kleebergs and GNL Type 1's - not to sound self-promoting - just learning. See Copperclem and take a look at his fake cobs ... he is a personal friend and an authority on CCs both for Spanish American and World. His English/Irish CCs are self-explanatory in terms of his depth of experience. The reason the English collectors have allowed us Yanks to EXPORT all these English/Irish 1/2d & 1/4d contemporaries is simply ... they don't have organizations like Colonial Coins Collector Club (C4) for their youth so these English numismatists primarily just collect silver, gold & ancients. Sad but true ... a guy name Cobwright really being the only pioneer but he also JUST exports (i.e., his ebay listings start with: USA Interest). <VVBG>.
