Customer came through my register with this nice-looking note. It's a shame about the corners and border, but still an overall nice looking note. Thoughts?

Great condition! I'd wager that one hasn't been in circulation very long. Some unknowing person might have cashed in someone's modern paper money collection.

Nice note. Have to agree it was a cash-in.
I haven't found one in circulation in years.

Sorry for my ignorance, how do you tell a web note from a normal note, and are they uncommon?

I'm not completely sure on the exact details on the printing process; maybe someone else can explain it better.
All I know is, the BEP tried a new method on printing notes on 1988a, 1993, and 1995 one dollar bills, which they decided not to use. I believe for these notes, they used a long roll of paper, instead of precut sheets.
The easiest way to tell is if you look at the back of the bill, the number for the plate appears above the "ONE" text, instead of below.

Nice find. Back in the 90's I had access to a lot of $1 notes and was able to put together a collection of around 100 notes from circulation. I haven't found any in 20+ years.Your note looks like 1917-A Block AF 1988A VF condition $35 EF $45 and CU $60 all book values though from 2008. http://www.uspapermoney.info/general/webs.htmlJohn1

Here's how I tell a WEB note from a normal note: Single plate number on the front (lower right) with no letter, single plate number above the "E" in "ONE" on the reverse. The overall printing quality looks fake and greatly varies. Washington sometimes appears to have a tan and sometimes he looks washed out.
No WEB notes were printed in Ft Worth so any notes with the FW monogram can immediately be ruled out.

I guess all the time looking at the backs of 1988a 1993 and 1995 one dollar bills finally paid off heh.
I'm glad the person that paid with it had a legitimate wallet, instead of shoving all the bills into his pocket like I see so often :S
It actually was a pretty nice day for me as a cashier. Also found a really nice condition 1995 (shame it wasn't also a web) and an old 10 dollar bill, all within a few minutes of each other.
And thanks for the additional info, John1. Are circulation finds of these really that rare?

That's a keeper! I have not found one in circulation since...2000-ish.

Quote: Are circulation finds of these really that rare? I don't know. It seems WEB note collecting never really caught on very well. I don't see them in my change in my area of the country so maybe they are a bit on the rare side? John1
