I came across a used Whitman bookshelf album for small Canadian cents at a thrift store, and dug out my Canadian cent folder that I hadn't touched in about 25 years. I am trying to fill in the missing coins. Up till about 1985 I was missing about 5 of the coins from the 1920's.

I found a web site someone mentioned where it lists all the recent varieties and that's where I got lost starting about 1988.

Can someone advise me what dates, mints etc. were available to the public at cost from the mint. I do not want to include any cents that had to be purchased at a premium from the mint or a third party.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Dave

Umm, I am having a bit of trouble understanding what you are asking.

The site may have been "Coins and Canada", they list varieties, Google them and tell me if that is what you are talking about.

Every year from 1920 until 2012 had a business strike cent, also most of those years had proof coins as well but you would want to ignore those for your circulating set. You can look up business strike and proof strike in the glossary section.

DOes your folder have room for the pointed 85 and guitar pennies? Could you upload a scan of your folder?

I hope this was of some help.

I believe 2012 pumped out a lot of Grandma bait for the penny, basically anything in silver or gold plated was not for circulation, neither are those stick on city ones.

There is a thread on here that list all the circulation pennies and varieties...

Where are the holes in your folder?

Thank you silver gold, I knew I forgot something!

You said your holes are all in the 20's? Those are the notorious ones!

Sorry if my post was confusing. The album I found is a Whitman Classic 3 page album #9151. The early cents that I am missing are 1922 through 1925 and I knew they were scarce.

The album has printed dates for a coin through 1989 but no specific varieties except for the 1947 maple leaf cent.

I have coin roll hunted through 3 $50 bags of you S cents looking for recent Canadian cents to fill in the missing years but have mostly found just a few Canadian cents from the 1970's and 1980's.

The web site I found was jandm.com and I wasn't sure which coins were only available to the public from about 1988 on.

I will check out the web site mentioned above and thanks for the help.

davef: I am almost positive that I saw a thread on here in the last 16 months that had listed all the small penny varieties..

If your holes are in the 20's which is very likely... those are all very hard ones to get... chances are slim to none that you will find a '23 or '25 CRH..

As mentioned coins and canada has a list and picture of some varieties... but I would really encourage you to dig through the archives here and try and find that variety thread.. perhaps someone here that knows how to post a link to previous threads and is good at finding past threads could post a link that would be very helpful

I am presently filling the same type albums. There is no variety identified in those pages except for the 1947ML.You can place any of the 48,49,53,54,55,65,83,85 or any of the 2003 and later years. You would place the cheaper examples in the album.I find that by making your own album you can have a more inclusive display of all the varieties.

Hey davef, I used the master search bar in the top left hand corner to search for "Canadian Penny List" and then I used the specialized search bar in the Canadian varieties and error section to look up "Cent errors".

I came across these two threads

https://goccf.com/t/98534

https://goccf.com/t/96680&SearchTer...variety,list

Also, I checked out J and M coins, the antique finished stuff was not business strikes, for circulation coins.

You also said you bought an ALBULM and are taking your cents out of a folder to put in the album? That is a favourable approach to collecting. As you explore the supplies forum more you will find threads dedicated to why you should use albums over folders.

Harmonica; Thank you for the links. I did try a search but found nothing that looked like it would help. I'm sure with the sites I've been given and your 2 links I can figure it out.

Those Canadian cents were taken out of the folder about 30 years ago and stored in a coin tube in a safe deposit box with other coins. At one time I had most all of my coins in Whitman bookshelf albums but I got to the point where I thought it was safer to keep them in a safe deposit vault, so I took them out of the folders and just stored them in coin tubes in the bank.

I found about 4 of the bookshelf albums for assorted coins in a thrift store for 99 cents each and I got the bug to get some of the less expensive ones out and actually work with them.

Wish I would have had the idea 3 years ago when we visited the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Recent cents probably would have been easy pickings.

Once you get your 50 posts I will look threw my Tupperware containers of "Hey Terry, you collect coins, have all these pennies!" containers and see if I have any modern ones you would like. Are you a New Englander? I have no idea what it would cost to ship 6 cents to America.

Following is a list that I got from somewhere (don't remember where)that is a cent list. I also have a problem trying to understand which recent cents were available to the public and which are not (and priced over $100 each).

I was (and still am, I guess) using Whitman folder #2480 for my cent collecting. It begins in 1989 but started being useless in the mid 2000's do to the various changes in Canada cents. It doesn't have correctly labeled holes for most cents made in the last ten years, and I am hoping that a new (and final) folder is processed some day.
