Hi - We are novices! We just received a flyer from the National Collector's Mint, Inc. They want us to buy Morgan silver dollars at $19.90 a piece. I looked on ebay and saw Morgan's selling for under $5.00. I am sure there are extremely rare ones but I don't think we would be getting a mass mailing to purchase them for these prices. Is this a scam? How do we know when something is legitimate. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Any mass mailing thing is going to pawn off Morgans that your local dealer cannot even get $12 for at the price of $19.90 for their "special offer"

Welcome, there's a simple answer: if it looks too good (or too slick) to be true, then it most definitely is. Look around and walk away. My dealer sells well-worn common date Morgans for $12 in quantity, and you can get deals in other places online (Apmex, for example) for between $12-14.

Sometimes ebay has legitimate deals, sometimes not. How you know something is legitimate? For one, you inquire of experts or experienced collectors, something you're obviously willing to do before making a mistake. For another you educate yourself about the coin and the prices before making a costly mistake, like buying from "National Mint Collection Rarities Silver Your Name Here It's Not a Scam We Mean It...Really, Inc."

1) Welcome;
2) No, for that price they are NOT rare!
3) Anything on ebay for $5 is a true steal, unless the shipping & handling is $25.00.

Watch those auctions, the final price will NEVER be $5.00 that is below silver melt.

$5 for Morgans? If it sounds to good to be true it probably is. Lot of fakes out there. Only way those aren't fakes is if they have a hugh shipping rate on them as mentioned above. Morgan dollars are about .77% of an oz of silver. Silver today trades at bid $11.90 oz. 77% of that is $9.15 and that is melt value. To sell them 4 dollars under melt is way to suspicious. Either fakes, stolen, or shipping rate is real high...IMO
