I did a search on Hawaiian Save The Dolphin Gold coin and came away with the feeling the coin was made by the Royal Hawaiian Mint. As is mentioned in the following article. The coin in this article appears to match your presentation, only you can say if the two are alike or not. However it appears to me that they are.

The Royal Hawaiian Mint appears to have been in operation since 1974 but the coin mentioned in the first article is not shown on their pages. If the coin was indeed minted by the Royal Hawaiian Mint it almost appears to be something that was made for the Hawaiian tourist trade.

Bases on these articles and others that I've found it appears that your coin is gilded and values minimally. Based upon what I've seen the coin is good looking but with little numismatic value as well a little precious metal value.
The initial article did provide some interest in the coin, but further reading into the mint did leave me with some confusion and so on my part I would leave the coin alone or as a jewelry trinket for my wife.
For your sake I do hope that my reading of articles is wrong and you do have a find of a lifetime.
Edit: I do agree with what Conder101 says. But do add that it might have been better suited if you had left it in a jewelry setting.
