I am looking to subscribe to the ccn, but am not sure if it's exactly what I'm looking for. I mostly want it to so that I can get trend values on some coins. I'm just wondering, do the trends change much over the 1 year period that i'd be subscribing to?
If I check coinsandcanada, it tells me a 1934 penny in MS62 is $190, and a 1928 MS64 penny is $1600. However, at the toronto coinexpo a week ago, a dealer was selling his 1934 MS62 penny for 20-30$. I was told that the price came straight out of the ccn magazine.
So to conclude, why is the price way off between coinsandcanada and ccn? I'm sure coinsandcanada gets updated frequently enough.
Also, does anyone know the trend value for a MS64RB penny from 1928? I'm thinking of selling mine but putting it anywhere near the coinsandcanada price will probably scare everyone off.
Thanks!

Hi,
According to CCN, a 1928 in MS 63 Red is $110 and MS 64 Red is $550. Red/Brown grades are subjective, so somewhere inbetween. :)

I forgot about the 1934 cent, CCN has this trending at $30 MS 62 Red Brown.

Sometimes there's discrepancies between CCN & C&C... afterall it's really only one person that keeps the site going... there can be some errors..
I have noticed that trends prices don't really fluctuate that much from one issue to the next.... (I really wonder if/when there has been major fluctuations in price as I was looking through my old buddies price guides from the 70's and there wasn't exactly a large stretch with respect to the '48 dollar then and there.)
I occasionally pick one up from my LCS or sometimes chapters has 'em... I kinda read 'em more for the articles... and figure if/when I buy any issue of the CCN within a year is probably on par.

Join your local club, you can always score a back issue or two.$10 to $20 is cheaper than a years subscription. Oh yeh, and you meet lots of great people.

My understanding is that between issues of Trends a particular section of coins will be updated while the rest stays the same (I could be wrong on this. I have no inside knowledge.). Yes, the prices on C&C for pennies in the 20's and 30's are unusually high but most of the rest of the prices are more in the ballpark. I've also seen some Trends prices that are completely unrealistic compared to what the coin is currently selling for. Ditto for Charlton. We use the latest Charlton, C&C, current ebay listings and completed ebay listings to arrive at a reasonable price for a particular coin. Charlton gives $575 for a 1928 1c MS64 Red. For RB I usually go 80% of Red value.

I don't subscribe, I go to coin shows and pick up my complimentary copy there. The trends don't seem to change issue over issue (or even year over year). I too am mostly interested in the articles, however I don't want to store/sort a bunch of CCN newspapers, nor do I like their digital version of the paper, which requires an Internet connection to access at all times. I'd prefer a downloadable copy of the paper that I can read at my leisure on my iPad wherever I am (regardless if I have Internet access at the time), but CCN won't allow for that. I told the publisher, Mike, that I would gladly subscribe if I can download the issue to my device, but he said no. As for tracking trends, I adopt a similar method as kuh85 mentioned.

Would anyone here on CCF be willing to sell me an older copy? Just one that has recent trend values. If so, PM me and we'll discuss payment

Just phone them and I am sure they will send you an older copy. tell them you are a potential subscriber. They are also carried at Book stores and magazine stands in most major cities. Visit a local coin store and see if they have any copies.
