The following is a release from the National Crime Information Center

On the weekend of October 11, 2014 an Eastern Shore Maryland dealer was the victim of a burglary which resulted in the loss of over $300,000 in gold and cash. The suspects utilized a sledge hammer to gain entry into the shop from an adjoining business. The motion alarm was not tripped.

Approximately 500-600 pieces of fractional gold and early commemoratives was stolen. The coins included Pandas, Maple Leafs, Eagles and Kangaroos. Also taken was $60,000 in cash.

Dealers should be on the watch for any subject or subjects attempting to sell a large number of gold coins as described above.

Anyone with information should contact:

It never ceases to amaze me how a lot of security measures seem to concentrate on doors and windows High end/professional burglars worth their salt always look for irregular methods of entry such as through the wall from adjoining neighbors in this case and in others like the Tony Spilotro`s Hole in the Wall gang in Las Vegas in the late 70`s to early 80`s . Some other professional burglars like the Mission impossible burglar in the 90`s come through the roof which beats some motion detectors .......and businesses always seem to miss covering those two areas when protecting themselves from burglars . Given their business I guess the coin shop was insured hence they probably will bounce back from all this

This robbery wasn't on the Eastern Shore, but a very well known coin shop in Laurel, MD. Of which I have shopped at a number of times before.
I don't know if posting the name of the LCS is appropriate.
