I get a kick out of some of the feedback I see for sellers who are selling rolls of old coins - often with the word "unsearched" showing in their description. Sometimes the feedback contains superlatives like "WOW!! SUPER HONEST SELLER" and sometimes the feedback contains specific examples of some great dates that were found in the roll.

Usually, if you look close, the person leaving these types of feedbacks has a very low number of ratings, which makes me think it's probably a shill. Personally, if I bought a roll that contained way more value than what I paid for it I would definitely not go into details like "Wow! Found UNC 1931-S R/B!!", I'd just leave a "normal" positive and go back and buy more - wouldn't you? I mean...if I found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow I would NOT be shouting, "Hey! LOOK EVERYONE!! Pot of gold over HERE!!"

Seriously - Do REAL bidders/buyers ever leave feedbacks like these? (Same seller in all cases...)

Feedback-
Rest in Peace

I think you hit the nail on the head - shill bidders or shill feedback in this case. Heck, if I was selling this stuff at these prices I would stop selling and start searching the lots myself. The seller must be an idiot if it were true.

Steeve,

I've always had the same thoughts as you about this subject. The "feedback" is obviously being left by shillers or friends of his.

We that have been doing this a long time ALL know that there is no such thing as unsearched rolls from banks with Indian cents, gold pieces or key date coins showing on the ends. My all time favorite is the guy selling "original" San Francisco Fed banked wrapped rolls with a 1909-S Lincoln showing on one end and a Lincoln with the reverse "VDB" showing on the other end. It is one of those things that some ebay Buyers just can't pass up and pay stupid money for. PT Barnum was 100% right!

Personally, I like Sellers that tell the truth about bulk lots and rolls of coins. I know exactly what I'm getting that way. I don't like gambling when the game is stacked against me.

The same with coin sellers.
Each old coin they sell is scarce or rare or difficult to find!!
And if you do a search on the mintage of their coins, there is nothing rare or scarce .
