Ran by the local coin shop yesterday and purchased a set of Wartime Jefferson nickels that appear to have been cherry picked from mint sets years ago. The nickels were then placed in a Capitol Plastics like 'Wartime Nickels' holder and have probably never seen the light of day since.

My question for the group is as follows.

Some of the coins have a slight haze from having spent their life in this plastic holder while the majority of the coins surface area appears as if they were minted yesterday.

Any recommendation on whether to have these coins conserved as I fear I'd probably ruin if trying to do so myself?

I wouldn't do anything to them. Could we see some pictures of the set? The haze may not actually be on the coins. I have opened silver proof Eisenhower dollars that appeared hazy while in their OGP, but once they were out showed no signs of hazing at all. This isn't always the case, though.

I took some photos and some of the haze shows up better depending on the lighting. The reverse photos show it better than the obverse photos due to lighting angle.
Rest in Peace

Cloudy hazing is predominantly on the bottom of some of the coins ... both obverse and reverse (more so on reverse of affected coins). The first individual photo is more representative of what the coins look like on the majority of the field and head, but some have cloudy haze around the inside rim of the lower half of the coin.

Live and let live. Exceptional set. Don't think I would try to improve at all.

Any full step strikes in the lot?

Hazing is likely an indication of outgassing from the holder - it will only get worse with time. Personally, I'd rinse each coin in acetone and transfer them to better holders to halt the progression.
