jmkendall it appears to me that the seller here has terms which are so carefully written that the buyer has no grounds to say "not as advertised". This is not a slabbed coin. You're not allowed to open the roll to examine the contents without voiding the return policy. And there is no promise that there is anything specific inside the roll. The buyer may have an advantage in most cases but not here. Some sellers sell you crap, in my case rusty razor blades, camera lenses with dirt inside, and fake novodels. In all of those cases I got exactly what was described in the listing. No possibility of refunds.

So if the roll was full of Ike dollars the buyer is stuck with them?

It's only promised that you'll get coins in the roll, not that they are genuine coins. Ikes are worth more than Chinese counterfeits.

The seller is handling these rolls on consignment, so is third party to what he is selling. He disclaims any knowledge of when the rolls were made or what they contain, and only offers a third party opinion of the consignment. He cannot be held liable for any of the consignee's deficiencies IMO, and goes so far as to advise the buyer not to open the roll (loss of historic value AND returnability). In this way he discourages all serious coin collectors from joining the auction. This auction is focused on people interested in speculative coin investment. Someone who will hold the roll in their safety deposit box undisturbed.

In short he's written an air-tight description which has no possibility of refund for any reason.

Well, it does seem to be a real bank, and the lettering font on the roll matches what the banks used on their checks. I really like the sellers $49 shipping and handling fee...

I see another identical roll for sale by Valley Forge Coin. The lettering on this roll does not have the shadow below it though.

Looks like he started off with cheap rolls, built up some feedback and has graduated to the more expensive stuff.

He even covers himself with the all encompassing "10% restocking charge"!

Are people really that gullible to buy this stuff? Short answer --- "yep!"

It's incredibly lucky when rolling mixed coins that a mirror surface cc always shows up on the end!

The same return policy as the previous cc roll auction, and does not allow any tampering with the roll. Because this roll is not being sold as a consignment there could be the possibility of a refund if the coins are not genuine. The seller might still have an out - he just didn't know what was inside - but his case is weakened by his promise that the roll contains 20 uncirculated Morgan dollars. [That a 19th century bank would have the capability of gathering up an uncirculated mixture of mints and dates to make rolls defies logic.] The lucky winner of this auction would be wise to weigh the roll, and if under 540 grams ship it back for a refund.

There's been a lot of bidding, but mostly by ***f which appears to be a shill making multiple minimum increment bids. It generates the appearance of a frantic bidding war going on.

original bank wrapped roll and he is promising it is all 1969 40% halves? How can he know for sure unless he wrapped it?!

That's easy! He works in the bank where he rolled it. Or perhaps he owns a coin shop in an old bank building. There are lots of ways that he could make his statements technically true

Really though, I would not touch these for anything.

On one of his current listings it is mentioned that you can get the highly desirable N.F.String rolls of halves which sometimes contain silver. A roll with a Franklin on the end is prominently displayed.

Here's how you can get into this business for only $10.50 using the N.F.String Twist-n-Crimp. Be your own bank!

http://www.twist-n-crimp.com

With this device, and suitably printed N.F.String brown wrapper, you can make any bank roll you like. 100% chance that the coin of your choice will be displayed on the end.
