I went to the bank today to get $40 of nickels and the teller said that most would be new nickels because they just got anew load from the Fed. So I decided to get them anyway because you never know when a silver or Buff will be hiding. I was down to the last roll, so far 99% 2014, and I saw a beautiful MS-64 or so nickel with a D mintmark on the reverse. It was the last coin so I flipped it over and saw the last 4 numbers I wanted to see. 1964. Absolutely worthless.

Don't forget about the varieties: DDOs, DDRs and RPMs amongst 1964 P/D production. Finding a high grade coin increases the odds of seeing splits in serifs.
Double check your 1964.

Because of the number of 1964 nickels struck there was a time well into the 70's I would bet that if 5 nickels were selected at random at least 3 would be dated 1964 ... and I'd win more often than not.

Check for RPM and if it has full steps. Weak strike...

Copper plated 1943 steel cent. I've hated magnets since that day. Someone locally scratches an "X" into the back of coins that they don't find interesting (always '82 and newer zinc). Depending on the branch I pick them up from, I find 10-20 per box. The following is a list of coins found with the "X" scratched into them. 1994 DDR (full extra column and a big "X" right through it) Grrrrrr. 1995 DDO (not sure what isn't interesting about this or how even HOW it was missed) 2 x 1988 RDV Probably two dozen RPMs. Gotta love stuff like that.

Double check your 1964. A nickel with 3, or more, steps from most of the 60's, even '64, is a rarity. Agree with those who hate '64 nickels. You could add 1999, 2000, and 1919 cents to that as well. When searching a $100 box of nickels one time I saved out all the 64's and had almost enough for two complete rolls of 40.
