Well I found an error on some Washington Dollars today and it's called the "Wild Whisker" Error. I don't know how valuable it is or how common it is. This link will bring you to the site where I found documentation of the error, http://washingtondollarerrors.com/ . How many of you have seen this error on these coins?

Mark

I think that die cracks like that are minor and do not add any premium to a coins value.

You can find numerous die cracks on many coins , with enough searching. It si one of the most common things other than minor die chips.

Many people try to name something like a "Wild Whisker" to create a market for a coin that is essentially no big deal.

The cute name doesn't ad any value to a common coin. That is my opinion on these.

Again what a person collects is up to them. They should have a feel for what a coin that is really worth something is, as opposed to a coin where you the value is in the hype.

Thanks,
Bill

Congratulations on your "Wild Whisker" find. I love the unique character of coins minted with cracked and worn dies, so am always easy to impress with such an example. Most of the time true error collectors won't refer to a die crack as an error, or so I understand.

The value of any coin is based on the same old three things: condition, scarcity, and demand. Sometimes something catches the publics' imagination, and builds a tremendous demand for that oddity. Other similar things, on the other hand, never gain a foothold in the public's consciousness, and never gain much value, either.

I'm sure there's a doctoral dissertation in there somewhere.

Best wishes.

This is some type of die crack but the odd thing about it is there is several different variations to it. I have found some that look like large warts on Lincolns chin and upwards under his cheek. I have several of each variety. I found them in the last 4 rolls I went through. I am going to pursue a market for them if possible. First I'll have to find a value for the error (as it's called).
