How many times have you tried to match up doubled die and discover that there are no markers that match up to examples on sites like coppercoins.com? So you check other sites for matching markers and they may have just a description. The problem with descriptions is that they are general. Such as die crack on the "E" of cent. Well the die crack maybe in the center, or to the left or to the right or even a glancing die crack? So we have to assume we are identifying the correct die?
But we need to look closer, not for markers, but what it is that makes an attributed die different than the other ones listed. The mint marked dies are a lot easier as you can match the location of the mint mark to see if you have the correct die or not.
But better yet, train your eye to see what is different with the different die numbers provided. We recently had a thread about a 1972 doubled die and I provided images to help see the dies side by side. But we couldn't find any matching die scratches or other markers to identify the right die number.
With great images that helps us to see what die number we are trying to attribute. So going back to the images I provided lets look closer to see what is different.
In a different thread about a 1972P-1DO-003 and 008 I discovered a major difference between the two dies on the date:

I noticed the differences on the cross bar. Do you see it?
So back to the 002 & 007 differences I re edited my images to show the differences on these as well. Here is the first image:
Looking-Closer
Do you see the edges of the "N" as different in alignment?

Thanks coop. I think the "W" in WE has some easily seen differences as well. I'm still comparing but can't get better pictures.

Moving on to the second image we note a different on this one as well:
Looking-Closer
Note the spread is slight different? Stronger.
Looking-Closer
We see an anligment different on 002.
Looking-Closer
Spread also see on these corners as well.
Looking-Closer
Note the date horizontal devices being thicker and a notch on the top of the 2.
Looking-Closer
Again we see the spread through the centers of the devices on LIBERTY.
So looking closer, we train our eyes to see things a little more different than we perhaps did before. So when markers are missing, the doubled die is all that is important on the Philly coins. Hope this helps.

Looking at the bottom right of the "W" in WE on the 007, do you think that little ding is PMD or a die marker. I can almost see a match with my coin. Small mark/dent running SW to NE, bottom right of the "W".

On the 007 and 002 examples-my untrained eye would of thought 007 was more an effect of coin wear and PMD but then when I look at the date examples I can definitely see it...just wish I had the proper tools or camera experience to be able to see my coins this clearly...wow,would help me so much! Clarity is my biggest issue especially only having one semi good eye lol-that's the eye with a corneal transplant, can't wait to get the other one done!

Here is the hubbed die on the left and a die that was tapered to get ready for use.
Looking-Closer

The 007 "WE" is showing coin contact on the bottom of the W. I wish I had better images, but always looking for nicer die state examples.

Hub and die:
Looking-Closer
Note the lugs. This keeps the die and hub in alinement during the hubbing process. Removed edge is tapered from the die to git it the shape we are used to seeing. It removes the lug pattern as it is no longer needed for striking coins.
