It's an "ok" set if you want to just put a date set together. It has some of the harder dates,1869, 1871, 1872 etc.But it appears most are not problem free. If your goal is to be a nicer set together, say VF+ or even F+, then pass. If you are just interested in checking of your collection of Indian cents, then I would say my max would be a few hundred dollars. For the coins you will keep, you probably can get nicer examples individually for around that much.

From those pics, it's nearly impossible to assess grades of the semi-keys/scarcer dates like that 64-L--AG at best. It would be far better to spend a few hours at a coin show and hand-pick the coins you want.

With the three FEC's their not cheap, any grade. This could be a good deal for less than $200. But ebay crazies will buy higher. Hope other members chime in to help. I'm hoping for a good deal for you.

Ok, I should clarify, a date set is all I'm looking for. I like problem free coins, but they don't have to be any better than G condition. Just to give some idea, I'm thinking a maximum of $300.

I think the bid is already getting very near top end. With the standards you are stating I would not go above $200 on a dare. I doubt if the 1864 L is an L, it could be but on a set like this I will always expect the L is not there. I would not bid more than $4 per coin. But that is just me.

There are some serious problem coins in that set. The early ones pre-1880 are low grade and *everything* is hard to see in those photos. Selling sets like that is a familiar way for a dealer to offload culls. A hand chosen set would be competitive in price and soooo much more meaningful. Nothing there is rare. There is not a coin in that set that I can't pick up locally in equal or better condition for $2 or (often) less.

Quote: Selling sets like that is a familiar way for a dealer to offload culls. And I wouldn't be surprised if someone bottom-feeds coin shows, assembles these sets, and eBays them for profit. There's too much overbidding going on just to "win" something--and lose your money.

I would put them together piece by piece. It's more fun and you know what you're getting. I agree with Amida.

The feedback is much appreciated. Won't buy anything raw of value without posting here first. Unfortunately don't have much time to visit coin shows. I do attempt to minimize risk when buying online by doing my homework. So far so good. Agree that the semi-key dates look pretty messed up. Could probably snag a few good coins from the set and sell the rest and come out ok, but not paying more than $200. Have added IHCs to my "want list." So far I only have a 1902 well worn. Thanks again.
edit: The snipers took it up to $245 in the last seconds...I passed.

You can also buy them one small group at time instead of one at a time. Often an auction will contain 5 or 6 or 10 or 12 IHCs in one auction. Buying one at a time of low grade would be too tedious. Look for the word lot, collection, or group in the title
