photo's are usually better than scans - for grading. i am not one of the experts - but in my opinion - there is noticable wear on the cheek, and jaw along the beard, as well as noticable wear in the hair above the ear. I would grade it in the XF range - but I am not skilled enough to narrow it down any closer.
im sure the real pro's will be along soon and give you a better answer.

If the surfaces really look like that thin this coin was most likely improperly stored. The "toning" is definitely displeasing to me.

I'd say it could grade as high as low AU, although it is tough to say.
It looks like it may have been dipped in the past, giving it a dull look.

An XF or low AU coin can't have that much red luster left. I see this one as close to a RD. There's orginal, red mint luster on both sides, especially the reverse. I can't see any wear either. Therefore, I grade it MS-61.

Quote: photo's are usually better than scans - for grading. And believe it or not, these are photos. They are horrible photos, but photos nonetheless. Quote: there is noticable wear on the cheek, and jaw along the beard, as well as noticable wear in the hair above the ear. Believe it or not, there is no wear on this coin. What you see is the result of poor photography. Quote: There's orginal, red mint luster on both sides, especially the reverse. You're right, and I'm impressed that you were able to tell considering how poor the pics are. I'm afraid I've wasted your time with these poor pics. I'll take and post better pics tonight. Please come back and offer your opinions based on pics taken in a different environment.

MS-62 RB
The pictures are not too bad, they would be better with a white background so the viewer can confirm your white balance. The surfaces are questionable, the color is strange and I don't see any luster.

My intention is not to hide the obvious blemishes, but to show the real color and luster of this coin. What do you think now?

Ahhhhhh.....Thats much better! My new opinion - MS-63 RD. It just goes to show how much images affect how you look at a coin.

Just goes to show, you have a hard time to grade coins from photos..
These are a lot better pics, I'll raise my original grade to MS-63RB
