Where are all of these? 1 on ebay for over $100. The only other one doesn't really look like a hanger...

It is definitely a Hanging 0, I am not sure I have a 1960, I will have to double check. Coin Chick if you look up between the stem of the leaf and the 0, look slightly to the left and you will see a white line. That is the hangman's rope. Hence the name hanging "whatever"

Either its a perfect hairline mark or a clash mark, its very faint but I can see it..not that its important.

It certainly looks like its in the right place at the right angle, so I'd say it is. I guess everyone is hording theirs since the penny isn't in circulation anymore .

People. Please read the thread properly.
The coin shown above is mine... I know it's a hanger..
The link pennyman provided to a used 1960 piece is not.. Plus it is a stock photo so the picture isn't what is sent.
I was just wondering where all the 1960 hangers are and provided a picture in case someone didn't know what I was referring to.
Does anyone else have one?

Pennyman Tough to say. Hangers are hard to see on circulated coins unless you have the perfect angle.

I see these hangers all the time, I think that's the reason they are not listed that often. They have become so common IMO that people don't bother to list them. The last penny set I sold if I can remember right had at least 2 different date hangers. I personally only look for 1962 harps nowadays for that date range.

John Any reason why you think that with almost 200 auctions with hangers only 2 are 1960? And of the 2 listed. 1 is a very slight clash and the other I can't see hanging at all.

I am sorry I thought we were talking about hanging variety for any date not just 1960. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the penny being removed from circulation. In a few years time we will likely see an impressive spike in the value for these coins.

1960 is a tough year to get any error, let along hangers. I have over 200 hangers from 1953 - 1964, with most of them being different, yet Coin Chick is right, so few of them are dated 1960. I've looked through literally tens of thousands of pennies and while single hangers, doubles, even triples (with the odd quad or even quintuple thrown in) abound in most years, you have a tough time seeing a decent 1960 single or double. I don't see it being a low mintage problem, as hangers from the 1920's through the 1940's seem readily available, as well as the well-known 1859 hangers, yet all those dates have much lower mintages then those pennies from the 50's and 60's. The upshot is that I don't know myself; it's a bit of a puzzler. The only thing that might be an answer is that the hangers from 1960 that I've seen all seem to be fainter, like they weren't clashed as strongly. On circulated coins they would almost be invisible, and on the ms coins they would be harder to see, and thus ebay sellers don't notice them so as to photograph them properly to show off the clash. Anyone else have similar thoughts or am I just talking through my hat? Anyway, nice score on you, Coin Chick, for finding such a nice one!

I would agree that the 1960 is much tougher to find than some others. In my opinion, the 62s are almost common. 57 58 59 and 63 also seem to be pretty easy to find . 64 is a little harder, then 53 & 61 and 54, 55 & 56. I guess the mint had better maintenance staff or better machinery in 1960.
