"I am not sure how they could truly make this a mistake in casing them." Maybe PCGS didn't make a mistake. Perhaps the U.S. Mint made the mistake? Just follow the flow chart. It is pretty much a fail safe system.

If they can't get the correct coin in the slab how are they going to get the correct grades? Adds new meaning to buying the coin and not the slab.

They must deal with thousands of those. The person who was probably sealing them has seen so many that they all look the same, and made the mistake. Now...the price tag...WTH?

Ron Guth, the president of PCGS, emailed the seller and asked that he return the slabs to be corrected. He said it was an embarrasing mistake, and that people shouldn't try to profit from them.

How is this an embarrassing mistake? PCGS is human, they make mistakes.

"Mechanical error" no compensaton but PCGS will reholder them at no charge but you do have to pay the shipping and insurance both ways. Odds are good that you would pay more for the shipping and handling than they are worth as a pair of "error" slabs.

How much, as a company with EVERYTHING on the line, would you pay for your reputation. 688 bucks is cheap for your name.

I personally don't think it's a big deal at all. I don't think their reputation is at risk if you consider the percentage that actually may be mistakes. As for the listing posted above and this part: quote: this is the FIRST time I have ever seen offered the PAIR....usually when a PCGS coin is mislabeled, someone wins and someone resubmits. This is the first time I know of a matched pair, of ANY PCGS ERROR coins being offered....
Who cares? There are probably other coins that have been swapped by accident. Just because this is the new dollars, and potentially from the same set of four that were turned in for grading doesn't make a difference to me. Of course, people will collect anything I guess. I also hate how they put in bold PCGS ERROR coins. They are not error coins, just mislabeled holders. Reminds me of the folks on Coin Vault..... Oh well, no bids anyway yet.

I think its funny (as was pointed out to him when he relisted the coins) that even he made a mistake when he described the coins, he says "Thomas is James....and James is Thomas!" when actually Thomas is John and John is Thomas
