Is there a way of finding out if a certain grading company is about to release new coins of a higher grading into the population pool ?
The reason I ask is because in one grading of coin I'm looking at in PCGS MS66 on ebay, there are 3 or 4 examples for sale. All at 25+% less than PCGS values them.
My paranoid thinking leads me to believe these owners know something I dont and are wanting to dump them now before the newer higher graded coins enter the market driving the price down.
Total population over 20K but only a dozen or so graded higher than 66. Even a few coins over 66 would change the values of the 66's right ?

Or am I overthinking this

very much so.

First, PCGS price guides are created by guess who? That's right, PCGS. Its in their best interest to inflate to whatever they feel the coin is worth "now" based on auction history.

Secondly, a coin is worth what current market dictates. ebay and Numismedia FMV accurately display current FMV as the data is all real time. HA.com also displays the latest and greatest as does any of the other ongoing auction houses. Just do some research in those places.

Lastly, full circle for you, the "under" 25% is in no way indicative of anyone knowing what PCGS or any other TPG for that matter is currently grading for release into the hobby.

What coin are you looking at? We'll help you.

Thanks;

1926 $20 Saint Gaudens.

PS I am a member of the Heritage Auction lists. Buy most of my movie posters there. Where do you find the values on their website ?

^ Nevermind; I found it at Heritage.
I've shopped there for years but never considered their coin auction since thinking with the Premium it would push the value past ebay etc prices.
