Good evening,
I just have a question to see if anyone else has experienced something similar. I received my Kennedy sets this afternoon and upon further inspection of the Philly proof if seems the 0 in 2014 is either; a.) doubled or b.) a die error is present I will try to post pictures in the morning. I compared said coin to all other 4 coins and all match the same profile of the error. A hint of a lower portion of a 0 on the inside bottom left and then again on the upper right side edge. It also is consistent with the tiny dimples present in the cameo of the strike. I tried yellow light, white light and darkness with just my loupe on and got the same result every time. I considered it being a reflection at first but said tests proved I wasn't seeing mirroring.

Here is the far away shot, you can pick out the doubling in the inside of 0 on the left and again the right of the upper edge. This is not present on either the 2, 1, or the 4. Again this appears on all 5 Philly proofs I received. A close up, there is minor mirroring as this is through my loupe with my Iphone but the area being refereed to I feel if clearly in view here.

Machine doubling..relatively common on modern strikes. Here's one of my Yellowstone 5 ounce P Pucks Entire E Pluribus Unum is doubled

Even though this occurs on moderns as in your case on a 5 oz puck, this being the Kennedy set, does it potentially have an added value? I understand it as such if all 300k sets came like this, then I would think it's not uncommon. However, if the first 150k or less sets include Philly proofs like this, am I right to think they'd have an added value?

I was told by many that this ( Machine Doubling) is common on modern Mint issues and adds zip to the value. I only found ONE other person that had the Yellowstone doubling and that made no difference.

On a coin/set like this, in my opinion where people want perfection, Machine Doubling would actually detract from the value. I know if I had the choice between a set with and without Machine Doubling, I would opt for the set without the doubling. Machine Doubling in my opinion is simply sub standard coin production quality.

I just spoke with a friend of mine as they were opening their sets, they got two, (2) Reverse Proofs in one set, then three sets had the same Machine Doubling like mine and the other set posted here earlier in the week. Very interesting that sets most people, I included waited months for, are turning out in such a manner. They are nice sets though.

How can they have two RP's in the same set? Was someone drinking? At least two people had to be drinking.....wow

Absolutely, either drinking or completely not paying attention. I saw the set this afternoon and it most certainly contains two RP's. What is more head scratching than anything, I thought Denver was tasked with putting the sets together and obviously got swamped or just missed the mark all together. I am not to happy with how most of the sets I've seen are turning out. They are beautiful sets and it is a shame the mint didn't take more care in preparing them. The Machine Doubling, jacked up P mint marks, scratches on the obverse etc. Hopefully, these get fixed, wondering what other sets they may offer these in. Off topic, the 2015 Kook is stunning, the Perth Mint has their ducks in order.
