One way I get invortary or upgrade my collection of coins.
1. Is to buy fed boxs of coins from your bank. If you buy large amounts
of coin boxs to search you can get lots old coins. Example one 100 dollar bank box of nickels I will get maybe 6 bucks worth pre 1960 stuff. On halfs you can still
pull pre 1969 silver coins, proofs, au, bu 1971 thru 2004 coins in fed boxs.
If you do that You need 3 banks accounts. One or two banks to buy fed boxs from. Third bank you want try see if they have coin machices to dump coins in there. I think you can start out with say one thousand dollars to buy coin boxes . Thats two half boxes or 10 100 dollar nickel boxes or 40 boxes of pennys to go thru for free invoraty your buying at face value. Key in this thing is to go thru fast and dump them fast where you can buy another round of boxes to search. One guy I read about buys 10000 worth of halfs week or monlth each from his bank . In last batch he got over 1300 worth of silver coins in those batches from federal government or reserve bank.
You will amazed all the stuff I found in those fed boxes, coins from overseas, old coins, error coins sometimes, proofs, On somedays I can go thru 500 to 1000 dollar worth coins all in one day. My last set on quarters I was building. I bought and sold over 600 dollars to build one 1965 thru 2007 set. All I had 80 bucks in pocket and built my set using that 80 bucks. I had to make like 7 to 10 trips bank to keep buying and selling rolls in about 3 or 4 hours time. I completed intire set minus one coin from 2004, 2007 coin. To save money on gas in truck. I just found an parking lot to park truck and go thru those quarters for set and reroll them to sale to bank. You can do that all day long building sets. Be safe and be secure in parking lots. I like grocery stores, places like Walmart, shoping malls to blend in where people dont know what your doing and I sometimes just move around going from parking lot and off to another bank to buy coins in the course serval hours. I built lots nickel books like that before. On large amounts coins take them home and go thru them since you can be safe that one.I never stay in same spot very long to attract bystanders or get found out. I onley keep less than 100 bucks on me when I build sets or buy coins to search. Large amounts like halves or dollar coins I take them home to search since thats an lot of money to have in truck or parking lots.
That one trick you can do get free invortary for your store at face value or build an large collection of coins like I been doing to sale later to buy stuff like stuff I cant find from bank rolls or coin search.
On building sets for resale the trick is buy solid date rolls of coins on whatever sets your building. I am trying to build 50 penny books for resale. I been buying solid date rolls of bu coins from 1959 thru 2007. I may add proofs to sets I am building. On the 1934 thru 1958 section I got luckey and paid 300 or 350 for all the solid date rolls to complete the set. I am looking for 1909 thru 33 solid date rolls of coins to finish it. On my 1959 thru 1986 section of book. I bought every bu roll for 125 from an coin dealer shuting down. I need the small dates to finish that. I did buy the 2000 to 2007 section from another dealer on ebay. I need 87 thru 1999 to finish it. These days I need to find an person where I can buy 50 dansco books at wholesale prices to start installing those coins in books. You can find lots bu coin rolls for greysheet prices sometimes or people selling old dealer stock in large lots of coins on ebay. It cheaper to buy large lots of bu rolls becides buying one roll at an time I learned. Whatever you its beter to buy in bulk on anything. I never pay retail on my coins for my collection or hoard I am building.
My last trick on geting key date coins for sets. I buy incomplete sets people started and never finished. I learned incomplete sets sell for an fraction sometimes since I guess people dont want them. I Buy the incomplete set and strip them to build one complete set. I know serval dealers who buys sets and parts them out selling single coins for retail prices. Example some sets you will spend 3 to 4 times over than what you can sell it for buying single coins at retail prices.
On mint sets or proof sets yet. I have not found out on how buy those at wholesale prices . I wish I could start buying those cheap and start breaking them up for single coins. I know one dealer I buy from does that . I am amazed that dealer is onley 14 years old selling on ebay like he does. He is cheaper and moves more coins compared to other dealers. His mother and father helped him get started. I dont know how gets them so cheap yet. I dont know on those yet. I wish I knew . If he stays with he can own his store when he like 20 years old.
Good luck you will need lots money get started doing it. I wish I had money to start an coin shop but I don't these days. Maybe some day after I build my hoard or collection up big time like I been trying from roll searching. My last retail business I opened I had to shutdown since it costing me 10000 to 15000 per month just keep the doors open before I made any money to take home. Those can be expensive with overhead these days.
