Hey... someone on Facebook (a stranger from a facebook group focusing on coin collecting) was selling his 2 cent piece. He offered me it for $25 and advertised it as xf condition. Shady guy also does not have a Paypal, but I will not pay him unless it is through paypal. Says he will get one on Monday. But the coin, despite the poor photo (says his phone camera is not good) looks awesome to me, especially in the fact it has luster. Looks too good to be xf and too good for him to be selling it to me for $25. Here it is: But I have doubts about it. Could it be counterfeit? Of course, I will only buy the item if I can pay via paypal, in case the shady seller sells me a counterfeit. But by looking at the scant details in the photo, can anyone give me direction as to whether I should buy it? I would really like an RB 2 cent in my collection for $25 given it is real. I feel the color looks natural but the price does not. Date is 1866. Common date. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Edited by 0xDA71D 11/01/2014 11:51 pm

Based on the pic I cannot tell you whether it is authentic or not.

ikr? That's why I am asking lol.
But if real, this deal is IRRESISTIBLE!
But what is your gut instinct? Seller says he has sold a few coins before.
Could you ever have an xf rb 2 center?

The coin looks like it has not been cleaned or dipped in any way; the color of the toning is original and it appears to have true luster, not just lightness in color.
So if real, does that make this coin an ms62? Color looks way way way too good for xf. Could the seller really be undergrading his OWN coins?

If you feel like pulling the lever on a $25 slot machine, then go for it. Personally, I think the fact that you have all these warning bells going off in your head is a sign you should pass.

The general rule of thumb is that if it is too good to be true it is not true.
That being said I messed up a few years ago on coins that I now know are real. I also passed on coppers from China at $9 for hundred dollar coins, made to order.
The poor picture is suspect.

How can you possibly tell from those pics ? Phones can take very good pics so don't let him use that as an excuse. Listen to yourself and quit trying to talk yourself out of what your feeling.

You are right... The person does appear shady.
If I pay with paypal (if I were to buy, that is), I can set a dispute, right?
My gut feeling is that he is shady.

I will not buy unless he gives me accurate photo. I will not buy unless he allows to use paypal.

Ask yourself: do I want a nice counterfeit for $25? If not, ask for better pictures. The coin might be genuine but no way to tell from those pictures.

Why would anyone buy this at a Wal-mart parking lot? Not cool. OT the only football college team I like to watch is OR.

I think someone on CCF has a quote saying better a flawed diamond than a perfect stone.. I feel the same way better a problem coin than an ms60 counterfeit.
