It looks like it might be Feeder Finger Damage to the die? What does both sides of the coin look like? With a great image I might be able to make an overlay to see if this was a clash.

It does, but the rest of the devices are not there. I made an overlay and nothing matches up.

To me it still looks like Feeder Finger Damage. The lack of other clash devices makes me think this. I even considered double strike off center, but the coin would have suffered distortion and again the lack of struck devices that should be there isn't.

A doubled struck would suffer distortion of the planchet:

Also the devices would show up doubled:
1918-S-Uspi-50-Cent
1918-S-Uspi-50-Cent
There only appears to be a partial shield, but is a feeder finger error:
1918-S-Uspi-50-Cent
1918-S-Uspi-50-Cent
1918-S-Uspi-50-Cent
1918-S-Uspi-50-Cent
Here is a similar one of the early wheat cents. Note the mark at the top of the coin in the field:
1918-S-Uspi-50-Cent
The feeder fingers get struck and distorted, then start damaging the dies with continued use:
1918-S-Uspi-50-Cent
Note how the Feeder Finger Damage is always behind the devices? The field is the outside of the die, the feeder finger damages only the area of the field. The devices are deeper into the die and not affected by the Feeder Finger Damage. Thus the feeder finder scrapes appear to be behind the devices and show only only the fields.
