I went to a estate seller near my house that specializes in buying jewelry and some classic US coins. I noticed that she had Seated Liberty dimes for like $5 for common date coins in about VG condition and Half Dimes for like $10 more. How good of a price is this?

I don't usually collect the series but I need some for my 7070 Dansco album. It seems like a good price looking around but I was wondering how common it is to get them that cheap. Should I worry about counterfeits with common dates in the series?

I doubt they are counterfeits, not worthwhile to counterfeit common dates in such a low grade. $5 for VG isn't bad, I can sometimes pick up G-VG Seated dime and Half-Dimes at my dealer for melt, not often though. If you need them for a Dansco I recommend skipping on them as they are easily found in VF or more for not too much more (unless you are on a budget). They still make nice additions to any collection though. Which dates did you see?

I too wouldn't worry to much about fakes. Not a particularly popular coin for counterfeiters.

Seems like a good price as long as they are not damaged or harshly cleaned. Remember that the later years (1880's/1890's) are much more common than the earlier years. I've gotten some AG-3/G-4 Seated quarters for $5 each a couple of years back but they were not much to look at.

Yeah I have a dealer near me that offers seated liberty problem coins for that price. Mostly ex jewelry with holes etc. That's what initially got me interested at the price.
