Just found this from today's pocket change and thought that it was interesting that the coins design was struck over (I assume) a mangled coin somehow. I say this because some of the clashed like letters flow under the motto/wording of the nickel. It looks like because of the strike error it says Montioello Five Gents. Probably just me. Either way I haven't come across a strike error like this so I thought I'd share. If anybody has a guess as to what it was struck against, feel free to give me some ideas b/c I can't figure it out as of now. The coin is dirty from wherever its been so put a couple drops on it to hopefully make things easier for me and you all to see what's going on.

OK I am pretty sure it's a clash. Saw the small D plain as day eventually next to the E in E. Pluribus Unum. As well as the obverse motto. I was just having a slow day haha.

Thought I could do a better job with the clash since some of the gunk came off. Love these clashes! 73 must have been an interesting year :-)

I don't see a die clash? But it looks like a die crack from "E" on STATES to the bottom of the steps. Here is a clash overlay:

Thanks coop I've been wanting one of those programs! It just looked a little off with some of the lines going on but I agree that your lines shown don't match up with what I thought was going on...I appreciate the help as always

I find many clashes during a CRH event. Taking pictures of them is very difficult as many require holding on an angle to catch light across the witness marks. I can't see anything on your coin yet...but I'm trying. Nothing like having the coin in hand to reflect light just right.
