I have a mint state 1859 Indian Head cent currently at NGC awaiting grading. My fingers are crossed.

I was looking at 1859s on ebay and saw this PCGS coin graded MS-64 with a CAC sticker, but it has a large scratch on the reverse and a not tiny mark on the cheek. I'm surprised it made MS-64.

Do people think this is an accurate grade?

Thanks for your opinions.

1) Scratches on the holder?

2) Scratches on the coin and it's grade would have been higher if they weren't there?

It definitely looks like the gouge is on the cheek, not the holder from the picture. Not worth the grade or the $'s he is asking in my book.

Illegal listing.
Doesn't show BOTH full sides of the holder.

Scratch on the cheek is NOT enough to keep it from being a -64.
Scratch on the reverse is NOT enough to keep it from being a -64.
But both together ... that's another story.

Price for a CAC -64 is okay BUT not with the two digs.

IMHO, the marks should rule out a CAC sticker. Technically, it may be a 64, but the marks are too detracting to my eye for that asking price. I'd spring for $300 or so. I've see more eye-appealing AU's for less money.

The listing shows them for me.

I don't think this coin qualifies as Uncirculated. The scratches are inconsistent with Mint handling.

Now I see both sides but this morning I didn't.
Don't know why.

Mornings can be tough ... I try to avoid looking at coins for a few hours past sunrise.
