Great post, very interesting a good read. Numoosey you must have at least one Bateman moose print lol. I'd be surprised if you didn't have the kilo moose. I image the kilo wasn't as pricy then, I could be wrong too!

You must have a very nice moose themed collection. I'm always amazed when I see them in the wild. I've been fortune to have seen them on 4 occasions. I've learned a lot about the moose in this thread. I appreciate everyone that's taken the time to post!

Pocket Change , I don't have a print, but you are right about the kilo coin.

The $250 one kilogram of fine silver coin uses the same design as the one ounce, but came with a classy " custom maple wood box lacquered in walnut coloured finish..." It is quite heavy with a diameter of 102.1 mm. It's basically HUMONGOUS!

Here are some pics:

Just incredible, NuMoose

The coin (1 kg of Silver) and your wish to be up-to-date by buying also 1oz Gold and 1oz Platinum coins.

About phenomena of 1oz Silver Moose - it probably "too Canadian", to be popular in Europe and US, so for Canada mintage of 7500 too big.
See, basically, flippers recognize this coin as very good (and it's true), but what has hit them:
the artificial shortage of the RCM supply, caused by big allocation to CP and dealers. And the fact, that CP started to offer "The Moose" not in parallel to RCM, but couple of days after. Imagine the Moose sold out everywhere, sellers happily raising the prices, and suddenly CP started to distribute them with free shipping....

That all happened after the wave of "hot" items like 2012 Titanic coins, start of Go7, 2012 Farewell to Penny set and coins....

And for anyone, who wants to have the Moose at home, I would recommend this coin.

Btw, you were lucky, that RCM didn't decide later (after distributing Bateman Moose coins), to issue them as a set in the single box and COA.

Thanks very much, Silveroid! I'm glad you like these Moose coins.

I forgot to add that the kilo coin was supposed to have a mintage of 1,000, but only 569 ended up being minted.

Also, this coin took forever to be delivered by the mint and having a rep proved to be no help at all (except to the rep). The big Moose lumbered in when it felt like it...

Must be nice to have in hand,
10.21 cm across, what a canvas.
A beautiful, great big chunky Moose coin!

Great collection

Official dimensions of an NHL Hockey Puck
one inch (1'') thick and three inches (3'') in diameter,
this coin is 4 inches, nice.

I'm over both your moose collection and that kilo moose. The eye is very expressive. Their heads are very horse like. The moose head is only more course and comes with the little goatee.
You've given me ideas for a horse/ wolf/train collection. Your posting of photos shows what's possible with time and patience.
A wooden display box custom made with the kilo coin as centrepiece surrounded by the other moose would be brilliant. How many troy ounces in a kilo coin? The moose & wolf are two animal I don't tire of.

I think we have two many loon, polar bears, & beavers. They've used the polar bear & beaver too death, my opinion. We could use a long break from those wildlife images. Canada is so much more than endless: beaver, loon, polar bears images we've been getting past 2 yrs.

Didn't realize you had a Rep, yeah they can be of limited use at times. I think there's too many departments at the mint. Couple that with a poor method of communication , results in no one knowing anything !
My rep explained how processing can mean up to 4 separate things. Now how can that be helpful to anyone working there?

I'm finally getting on better with my rep. I think part of it, she is native French speaking and I'm native English speaking. I think some words don't transfer well between the languages. She's got a beautiful sounding québécois accent. I need to listen very carefully to understand her English. I would imagine it's the same for her trying to understand me.
It's been going much smoother lately.

Thanks SilverDon and Pocket Change!

I'm enjoying posting these.

Next up is the gold coin based on Bateman's 1989 painting entitled "The Challenge" Here's Bateman's explanation of his work and an image of the painting:

"A moose is an intimidating animal. A big bull is huge - weighing up to half a ton and standing up to seven-and-a-half feet tall at the shoulder - but is amazingly swift and graceful when moving through thick forest and underbrush.

Very often I have seen moose well immersed in a lily-clad lake. The water lily root is one of the moose's favourite foods. The big head reaches down, totally submerges, fills up its semi-prehensile mouth with roots from the bottom of the muck and brings them up for chewing. A typical sight is the dripping emergence of a head with antlers festooned with lilies and other aquatic vegetation. I have been in moose country very often and usually see their tracks and other signs. I assume that they see or hear me first and keep their distance.

One should always treat moose with respect. Most moose that I have seen have been from a safe distance. I've only had one encounter with a moose, and that was with a cow and her calf. The cow didn't want me in the neighbourhood and came straight toward me. This was somewhat disconcerting since I am usually trying to get close to animals -- not the reverse. I was well aware that the moose's method of attack is to rear up and dash up with a large, cloven hoof. Luckily I backed off, trying to keep trees between the two of us. The cow was satisfied and returned to her calf.

In this painting I tried to give the feeling of a powerful bull which is too close for comfort.

I left the scene deliberately ambiguous as to whether this is a charge or a bluff or simply the thrashing of antlers to get rid of some bothersome twigs. There has recently been a light snowfall. Some of the bits of snow are being scattered.

I intentionally kept my technique of painting open and somewhat loose, partly because this style actually increases the sense of movement and dynamism in the painting and partly because I was simply having fun with the strokes of paint and liked them that way."

Here are a couple of photos of my one ounce fine gold coin. It weighs 31.1 grams and has a diameter of 30.0 mm. Only 359 of the planned 750 were minted.

By the way, the mint also issued a $2,500 one kilo fine gold coin with this design. At the issue price of only $69,000.00 I passed as it was just a tad over our budget for coins...

Only 12 of the planned 30 were ever minted.

Tomorrow I'll post the platinum Moose which explains my avatar.

@NuMoosematist: Very nice collection, I'm enjoying the show!

I'm glad to get the chance to see images of the actual coins vs. the RCM's artist's depictions.

Keep 'em coming!

Hi folks!

The last of my coins in the mint's Bateman tribute is based on this stone lithograph by the famous artist entitled "Bull Moose":

This-One's-For-Numoosematist

Only 252 were printed as part of a dealer program of appreciation.

I chose this image to be my NuMoosematist avatar for obvious reasons.

The mint's $300 one ounce platinum coin is actually a mirror image of the lithograph, in which the Bull Moose is facing to the right, while on the coin he is looking to his left.

The coin weighs 31.16 grams and has a diameter of 30.0 mm. A mintage of 300 was originally anticipated but only 247 were struck.

I thought I was a collector, now I know that I am a noob.

That is a really impressive collection
of Gold, Silver and Platinum Moose themed Bateman
coins, NuMoosematist. I didn't want to chime in
as I wasn't sure the show was over, wanted to yell
encore, hold up a bic lighter. You have a dedication
to the hobby and a love of Meese and numismatics.

Awesome.

Well done to you and to your supportive spouse.

Oh yeah,

!
