(found with obverse side up, some scratches on both sides) I finally got a 'found on the ground' 2009 Cent! (after picking up several BU Cents from parking lots, and then finding out that they were 2008-D Memorials, instead of 2009 LP Series...) Report this Post to the Staff

MArainman Valued Member United States 104 Posts	Posted 11/12/2009 09:06 am The Coinstar machine at the grocery store had almost $1.50 in change, a South Africa 2 rand, two British pennies, about $1.25 in Canadian change (all different KMs), a Bermuda 25 cent, and a Kazakstani coin. The Shield nickel missed its big chance to return (briefly) to circulation, due to its .7mm smaller diameter than its descendants. DNA Pillar of the Community United States 2734 Posts	Posted 11/24/2009 10:26 pm Today: two Silver Quarters for 25¢ in one day! First, a VG-8 1953-S comes out of the grocery store's coin changer (oh, yes, I heard the 'ping' when it dropped in the cup! ). Then, I see an XF-40 1964-D in a restaurant drawer, and I asked the young cashier if I could buy 'that' Quarter from him. I gave him a BU Virgin Islands-D Quarter for it, which is a 'fair deal' when you think about it, 'cause the Virgin Islands-D Quarter is a far lower mintage than the 1964-D (41 Million, versus 704,135,528 for the 1964-D), and we all know that the 1964-D has basically no 'numismatic' value.... (....except for the Type 'C' reverse, especially in BU grade) Seriously, the 1953-S is a wonderful find for me, because in 25 years of saving silver Quarters from circulation, a 1953-S was not one of the ones I've found.....Whoops, late edit: I was digging all of my 1964-D's out of my silver Quarters (to look for a 'Type C' reverse) when lo and behold I found that I did have a 1953-S in the box after all. Probably received in the 1980's, since I didn't remember it being in there. So that makes two 1953-S's received in change in a 25-year space (if I wait another 25 years, I might get another one!)
