She did it again. For the fourth time in maybe two months, my wife last night casually handed me a Wheatie she had picked up in change, this one a 1944-D. I demanded to know where she's picking these things up, but she just laughed and pretended not to know!

Today: 2012- P Hawaii Volcanos Quarter. Only the third P-mint ATB Quarter I've found in my change since 2010!  |

I keep all the Hawai'i Volcanoes NP quarters. You know why? I've been there before! I've found 3 so far. Anyone else been to a national park they put in the series? If so, do you keep the ones you find?

Low-number bill! Don't have it on me but it starts with 00002. And no heavy folds, either--just a single teeny bend that will come out in a book!!

a 1909-VDB penny in the register at work, which was the coin that got me into collecting! Next to that 1909-VDB lay a 1952-D cent as well! I got a 1909 in change seven years ago (unsure what type that one was) and I accidentally spent it so to find another 1909 in circulation was really gratifying! It was a true epiphany!

Got a 2007 2 Grosze coin from Poland from a teller who was looking to get rid of it. He was more than happy to give it to me.

So tonight had someone counting out their pocket change and tossing it on the counter (this is a HUGE pet peeve of mine--guys, our hands are no dirtier than yours after you've handled money, please don't treat your clerks like they have rabies), and I spotted a glimmer in his hand. Sure enough, something hit the counter with a "tinnngggg!" and when I nonchalantly picked it up, I was thrilled to spot a nice, clean (as in "not covered in crud," not as in "crap, who brought the Brillo?") 1961 quarter!
Not three minutes later someone bought a coffee, $1.62 and handed me a buck, two pennies, two quarters, and a nickel, dug around their pocket "hold on, I know I have another nickel in here" and . . . .
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR NICKEL! (I've missed doing that.)
1944-P, in GORGEOUS shape! It's black from tarnish but the devices themselves look easily XF, maybe better.

Two nice finds today. One a 1987-D quarter that must have spent the last 26 years in a coin jar. The other is Lincoln smoking a doobie or something!   |
