Got this back in change at my LCS this morning â€" no not coin shop, Local Coffee Shop. Spent most of the morning (with the naked eye) trying to decide whether or not it was D/D or not. I'll still take a Wheatie any day. (Sorry, for some reason, I couldn't rotate).  |

In the past few years, I've found a AG/G 1867 Without Rays Shield nickel (from a Coinstar reject bin), an F-12 1938-D Buffalo (in a roll bought from a grocery store) and a VF 1938-S Jefferson received as change. Today, I got this in my change. A few hits on Jefferson's cheek, but AU mint luster!    |

Got this at the same Coffee Shop I mentioned above....exactly the same size as a US Nickel. Tell me I've hit the jackpot!! I don't think I've ever received a foreign coin in change other than Canadian. At any rate....an interesting find from circulation. Sorry for the quick cell phone photography...   |

Got my first IHC from circulation this morning, a 1902. It was in a deposit. My second oldest circulation find (oldest was an 1867 3-cent nickel a couple months ago).   Edited by hcmusicguy

Asked the lady at Aldi's if she had any half dollars, lo and behold she had 3 and 2 of them were 40% silver! :D I think I will start asking that to anyone with a cash register anywhere

I found a 1953 wheat in my change a couple of days ago.
Sometimes I will ask cashiers if they have halves. They're not always the most desirable coin, but I'm not going to ask the clerk to go through the quarters or dimes looking for silver. The clerk will know if they have half dollars in their drawer. I usually got skunked on the halves, but one night I got a 1968 40 banger.

If you ask for halves, they will give you whatever halves they have and in the instance that they have large sized dollar coins they will usually offer these as well. I've never gotten a Morgan or a peace but I did get an Ike once.

While on vacation and going through a small town in TN I stopped at a bank and asked for some halves, they didn't have any but they volunteered that they had some rolls of large dollars, got a roll, all Ikes, and I suppose the rest were too, anyway I stopped at one roll since I found nothing of interest. I think they had 8 rolls on hand.

Hubby brought me home an au Mercury dime last week. He said his manager noticed it because it in the register till because it "sounded different" I spent 2 indian head pennies (both VERY dark and duplicates that I had). One at a McDonalds and one at a convenience store. |

I put this in the wrong thread, its more at home here. I'm currently in Australia and amazingly received a Corroborree Frog $1 in my change at a coffee shop. These were/are only available as issued in a capsule snapped into a collector card for $15.  |
