Well....my latest one isn't much....but a 1956 D Wheat penny from "Boston Market drive through" a few days ago while at lunch !......Yea !........  Edited by eaglefoot

In a box of 2500 cents I found 10 wheat backs 45,56,50,56,58D,56D,57D,45,57d,44 7 nice memorial cents 71s,79,91,91D,73,81,70S 1 2006 Bahamma cent 2 Canadian cent 82,74 Very Nice Memorial cent67,76,60D,82D80,76,80,82,78,86D Very nice wheat back 53D,47D,54S,58D And 1 1901 Indian cent with total of 35 cents vace value Copper cents 59-81 5 dollars and 15 cents |

While at the bank today cashing in some searched through pennies I noticed a big old silver dollar in the tellers tray and it turned out to be a 1972D Ike. I asked to purchase it and he said no problem. It's melt value is over $6.00 so I think I did OK.

Man ! That's great on the IKE "spy in the tray" !! I spied a silver Kennedy once and got it........ hmmmm......gonna have to start looking in those tellers trays !

Not so. The 1972D is Cu-Ni Clad, worth more intact than melted. Still, you did good; you saved it from that nasty till! I love the Ike!  |

a few rare varieties were made in silver by mistake in denver in 74 and 77

I took a long lunch today and went through a box of nickels and found a twenty pence coin (2002)!
That's my most obscure find for the past week or two.

Jeremy...Do you find silver dimes and quarters by searching boxes? For I have never found a silver coin in circulation. -PP

Weren't found in circulation -- at least by me.
However, our youngest son just gave me five 20 Pence pieces accumulated during his recent stay in England.

After getting breakfast at Denny's during our trip to Phoenix, my wide went up to pay the bill and came back excited about 27 cents in change she picked up at the base of the cash register ( 2 dimes, a nickel and Two Cents). As I glanced at them, I realized one was a Buffalo nickel, a 1936 in about 40 condition. Now I wonder if they were all dropped by the same person and was the nickel in circulation or came out of someone's collection. I have not found a Buffalo in circulation in years and years. I found a 20 pence just a couple days ago in a roll of nickels as well. Pretty cool find. The same day I found a 1 NGWEE from Zambia in a roll of pennies! There's just no telling what might turn up in a college town. Especially with such a high population of foreign students.
Today I spoke to an old friend of mine that works as a delivery driver at a pizza place. I asked him if he saves his change and if he'd mind if I went through it. He gave me a big jar of quarters and a cup full of mixed change. He said I could take whatever I wanted out of it if I just bring him the money back in bills later. Very nice guy.
Turned out to be $200.40! One good find was a 1964 silver quarter! Also found a 2006 Canadian quarter, a 1994 1 YI YUAN, and a 1996 CANARY ISLANDS 5 (not sure 5 what? 5 cents I guess). The Canary island coin is about the size of a dime and I think it's made of nickel. The silver was a nice find and the foreign stuff is always interesting.
Never know what you might find when you're looking in the right places!
