Interesting Find From Circulation

I use to work for a pizza delivery place as a delivery driver. I found several good finds in the change I would get from customers. I found a few silver quarters and dimes and several wheaties over the course of a few years.

I can recall a couple of memorable occaisions. One was when a customer was dropping change into my hand when I heard that tell-tale sound of a silver quarter tinkling. I tried to keep a poker face while I was smiling inside and quickly shoving the handful of change in my pocket. I thought to myself 'they just gave me more of a tip than they were expecting' .

Another occaision was when I recived an Ike dollar as part of my tip. This had to be about four years ago. I didn't know until just a couple of weeks ago that it was of more significance than I'd thought. It turned out to be a 1976S with the 40% silver content! Oh yeah !

And for the last one - After I'd read about CRHing the Kennedy halves on the evening of 1-21-08 I decided right then I would go out the next day and give it a shot. I had a couple of jars of change still hanging around from my pizza delivery days. I figured I'd roll up all this change and use it toward getting my first several rolls of halves. Ironically while sorting my change I found a 1945P wartime nickel. VERY COOL! And what's even more Ironic is I had not known until the night before that these '42-'45 nickels had any sort of special significance at all! Makes me wonder how many I must have let pass through my hands over the years .

Oh, by the way. That first $100 of Kennedy halves I searched the very next day. I found 6 40%ers. There were four in one roll alone! I've only found four total in the subsequent approximate $500+ since then. Beginners fortune I guess.

Oh, I guess I'll add just this one. I recently got a New Zealand coin from a teller at my bank. It's about the size of a dime but maybe a bit thicker. It Has Elizebeth II on the front and the image of a Tuatara (a very rare island dwelling lizard found near New Zealand) on the reverse. It also has a 5 on the back with the lizard. Anyone know anything about NZ's coinage?

My third year of college was 1962, and that was my first year away from home.

My roomate was a bartender when not going to school.

In his bedroom he had eight quart jars, all filled to the brim with nickels, dimes, quarters and half dollars. (tips)

He told me from the very first day that I was welcome to take anything I wanted, as long as I left proper (face value) payment.

I think the stress of being away from home the first time might have blunted my coin collecting instincts, because to this day I don't remember what I took from his jars.

Had I been thinking ratoinally, I could have gotten some great acquisitions.

A guy I work pulls his change out every day and ask you need any of these .Today he had a 64D Roseavelt Dime & a 1938 Mercury dime .I asked how much he wanted ,he said buy me a pop $1.00 . OK

I had a couple minor finds today....40D and 48 Jefferson, 37 Lincoln, and a 50D Roosevelt. Without these babies I never would have made it through the 12 hour day!

Whos need this "responsible adult" thing anyways?
