Is this a die break? Starts at the left side of the T in Liberty and travels southwest to her ear then south through her neck. Rim to rim. Also, on the reverse above the D in dime. Any premium or demand for this?

The OBV looks like a very nice die break and on the REV looks like a small die crack. The OBV might command a slight premium but not the REV,IMHO. I am wondering if any of those dark spots would come off with an acetone dip?

Wow, that obverse crack is impressive. I would like to see what that die pair turned out before it was polished down. Look at Liberty's nose, it's gone in front of the eye.

Interesting coin.

Are those Cuds on the reverse at 9 o'clock and 7:30?

The last A in America looks smashed. Is that PMD or LDS?

If those are Cuds on the reverse, I would expect an even higher premium.

Don't think they are Cuds on the REV,I think they are fold over rim finning.

Thanks everyone! I'll give it a soak to see if those spots come off. I didn't even notice liberty's nose! Can anyone explain rim finning?

There appears to be a rather phenomenal trisecting die crack. The crack appears to be in the shape of a Y, dividing the coin into three pieces. Bisecting die cracks are in big demand in the IHC series as only a few are known. This merc dime doesn't appear to show full maturity of the crack, as no failure can be seen in the very center of the coin. Nevertheless, a very nice specimen.

Oh, and I don't know what rim finning is but that does appear to be a rim Cud.

Oh okay, I see that on most all IHCs. I noticed that when there is MD, there is often rim finning in the same direction.

very cool ! you can even see the tilt from united vs America with the finning see how opposite the finning it looks almost worn out/grease filled but it is the tilt instead.

Nice coin and interesting. However, I doubt if it would bring a real high price. One nice thing is it is almost all FSB. That too would help raise the value. Nice.
