Is the shape and size of the date on this uncirculated 1923-p Mercury dime. Looks different wider to other I have and compared it too.

possible class 6 DDO?

mind you it is a fully struck uncirculated coin with not appearance of a hit or PMD in that area.

any comments or suggestions?

On another forum some members suggested it might be a class 6 DDO. similar to the Lincoln Cent 1943 incase you cant picture a class 6 in you head.

I just see the design flattening towards the rim. You can see similar flattening on LIBERTY. Quite similar to Peace dollars - they flatten at the rim just like this.

The "3" tells me there was an issue with grease in the die at the time of your strike. The slight amount of grease in the makes the devices look wider, but they are tapered to be able to release after the strike.

The slightest amount does affect the devices.
