Got this out of a four for a dollar bin, along with a bunch of other 48s because I couldn't tell the difference. This one just stuck out because it is so well-struck and the obverse toning flashes in hues of green, blue, purple and pink as you turn in in the light. From a distance, looks like dark chocolate with streaks of milk chocolate. And I should probably stop comparing pennies to food.

Nice coin, I'd say EF-40 (maybe 45).

So you guys don't think this is AT, given how colourful the obverse is?

I wasn't concerned about colour as I was about wear, which there are several instances I can see from the photos.

EF-40, which could likely could sneak by as an EF-45 if the wear areas were not so blatantly contrasting the rest of the coin in pic #3.

Out of the obverse pics, the second picture shows the actual colour the best. The third photo was to try and capture the streaks of green and purple-pink in the toning. I haven't seen a penny tone this strange before. Even the edge of the edges (the edges which are closest to the face of the coin) has a touch of blue toning visible when you angle it a certain way. I can't catch it on camera. Just imagine it's a bit like a sandwich where 1/4 of the top and bottom is blue and the middle is brown.

I've heard about non-business strikes toning wildly and is it possible for this to be one?

EF-40 I think. Very nice. You can sure see the wear points but it is still very nice!

Too bad the colour tones don't show well in the photos. I have a handful of colorfully toned 1ยข from the 30s-60s era, in varying grades. I find that the coolest tones/hues come from the AU/MS grades when there is a high concentration of original mint lustre, which just amplifies the random tones/hues.
