At this time (31 Nov 2014) there are two auctions on ebay for Johnson Matthey 10 ounce bars.
It will be interesting to see which one goes for more and by how much. They are both .999, both J&M, and both 10 ounce. The only difference is the way it was made / presented. Both have free shipping, both from the same seller.

Here are the two auctions if you would like to have a look:
10 Oz Silver Bar 999+ Rare Old Pour Vintage JM Johnson Matthey currently $195 USD with 28 bids. (3 days left)
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/10-Oz-Silver...t_395wt_1362

10 Oz Fine Silver Bar 999+ Rare JM Johnson Matthey Ser #195575 currently $194 USD with 10 bids. (3 days left)
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/10-Oz-Fine-S...t_437wt_1362

This is a real world example of what kind of priemium collectors apply to different bars. Cool
cheers

I wouldn't be surprised if the poured bar bring more at the end. Nothing special about the other one IMO

That my friend is the point of this historic research project. With all other variables being the same ....what will be the difference.
I am on the edge of my seat.

okay you got me, Liverpool. First I have to admit that my history of silver investing consists of buying 12 Silver Eagles in about 1999 for $9.99 a piece and trading them in on collector coins in 2011 or 2012 at $33 each. So what in the world is the difference between poured and cast silver?

Is .999 silver not .999 silver no matter if poured, cast, rolled, stamped, milled or hammered?

That is the question, I have no idea but I am confident that there will be a difference.

Wow.....count me wrong. Based on conversations I've had in the past I was sure there would be some kind of a premium on the old poured bar. I was wrong wrong wrong. I should beat my head on the ground until some one out there forgives me.
The old poured bar sold for $205. with 31 bids. and the new shiny bar sold for $204. with 13 bids.
I have learned a little more about collecting and stacking.
cheers

Yeah, that poured bar went for cheap but it is not really a rare bar per se. You can find this type of poured bar any given day on ebay.

The struck bar is not "new bar", it's in new condition though.
