Blast white - except for the rims that has toned a bit.

20 years ago, these could be found in dealers' junk boxes in Australia, most commonly in MS grades. They almost never circulated in Indonesia, the Japanese invasion saw to that.
Nevertheless, the pictures presented here suggest a coin in near pristine condition, with only one small rim nick.
MS65 seems appropriate.

Mint mark 'P' = Philadelphia Mint.
Australia had some of it's wartime silver coins minted in the U.S. as well. ('S' and 'D'.)

Smaller coins seem to be cleaner of bagmarks than big coins, but does one single rim nick lower it to 65? Sel, are these still commonly found today as they were 20 years ago, and in higher MS grades? Also, do these wartime Gulden coins average out at MS?

I wonder why the interesting bits are left out of Indonesian history textbooks. All we have to do was memorise dates...

I have three from Utrecht mint, worn almost smooth in the middle reverse.

Indonesia, geographicaly, is close to Australia.
I think that the reason why these were relatively common in dealers' junk 20 - 30 years ago, may be due to them being in the pockets of returning military servicemen back in the late '40's and early '50's.

Japanese invasion paper money used to be relatively common for the same reasons.

The coins are almost never found in dealers' junk boxes these days, and certainly not in high MS grades.

Most of these 1/4Gs all look very clean, some with the added appeal of rainbow toning. I'll post another one when I can get to it.

Were those coins 20 years ago at MS grades too? Considering they were stopped from circulating.

A bit unrelated, but in the case of high grade coins being common and low grades being rare, would the low grade ones have a higher price?
