Being in Canada there has been a lot of discussion recently about the Amero. A combined currency for Canada, the United States and Mexico. I am wondering if any members have heard any discussions, newscasts, debates etc on this topic. Any and all information and/or opinion on this topic would be welcomed. FASTBACK13

I am in Arizona about 60 miles north of Mexico and I have never heard of it. plus I don't see Mexico doing anything together with the US. other than helping to support the Illegals that we have here in AZ. ( don't take that wrong it wasnt meant in any derogatory or demeaning way) Gary

There has been quite a lot of internet discussion about the "Amero" and related issues, but I"ve not seen or read about Senators, Congressmen and the President being engaged in any serious debate on the topic, so I tend to strongly discout the possibility of this becoming a reality any time in the next several years. It seems that patriotic sentiment runs pretty high (opposing the combined currency) and our president has his hands full with other international problems so is unlikely to spend any political capital he might have left pursuing this idea. Just my opinion.

I haven't heard anything about it anywhere else besides the internet, not on local TV or any of the big network news stations so I don't know what to think about all of it

I also do not believe this as a possibility, yet there has been debates on nbc and other news stations. I agree that there appears to be more on the internet than pushed in the public eye, but it is a topic or interest and discussion I believe. Many people believe that the CDN dollar getting closer to par has been a plan to make Americans feel more at ease with the CDN dollar. I actually started this topic not really to debate politics but more so to see if it was an event that would occur how would it affected collectors of US and CDN coins when the Amero would take over

I don't think it will take over the Dollar but if it did by some way out of this world chance. I see buildings falling and a lot of dead Presidents rolling in their graves. that just not the American way MHO. I see the USD taking over before anything like that will happen. Gary

From what the talk is, we would see the Amero as Europe now has the EURO. I recently just saw a program on National Geographic on the making of money (US CURRENCY)and if plans were to go towards a new currency, why is the US continually trying to make their current currency more and more counterfeit proof. A very interesting and informative show.

I have never heard of that. I guess they're trying to do something like they did in Europe with the Euro.
I'm against it, but if the US mint keeps on making different designs for all the coins then I'm for it.

I think we are trying to make our currency more counterfeit proof to keep country's like N or S Korea (not sure what one it is that flooded our market with super notes) but to keep country's like that from making our money and killing the economy with it' now that is just my opinion and I am not all that political as you may see from my posts. I do have an opinion but I don't really believe that it counts lol Gary

The Amero doesn't make sense. But NAFTA --"this will be good for America and good for Americans"--didn't make sense either. NAFTA was and still is nothing but a bail-out to U.S banks who are owed billions by Mexico. All of our policies with Mexico are nothing more than an effort to keep an staggering elephant from dropping dead in our back yard. But there is an amusing possibility here: At the rate we are hemorrhaging money to fight the forever war on the boogie man, maybe it is we who will be the elephant that drops dead in Mexico's back yard.

The point of this topic is that all opinions count and the more people the more ideas on whether or not this is a possibility. The timeline I have heard is 5-7 years and I have heard that this discussion has been ongoing for quiet some time. I guess the question I had the first time I heard it is why call it the AMERO why not the U S "eh" FASTBACK13
