Why do so many coins I look over have the UGLY? Scratches, bag marks, oxidation, something taking perfect to poor. The coin that inspired this post has one for each side.

I do see the scratch on the obverse but your photos of the coin make it look quite nice.

Marks add character, are not always wanted, but are part of the coin's history. If it was a die break or Cud, we could be talking premiums now, so, one person's mark is another person's treasure. That coin has nice luster, and has been around for 79 years. Compared to mine, it is clean, shows little wear on the crown, it is a piece of Canadiana.
Like a grilled cheese sandwich burnt on one side, serve (show) it bad side down.

I would be happy with either coin, if the price was OK.

yes with sel69I on this one, I like picking things up at a good price whether it is in great condition or poor, if I don't end up liking the coin I will re-sell it.

Unfortunately tpgs don't slab coins with the phrase beauty mark or added character.

It is what it is - scratched. The nature of the soft metal will result in marks. Try to remember why you two got together in the first place, if you can't reconcile then it may be inevitable, you may have to separate or at least seek counseling.
You could sell it and buy one with no scratches or impairments, ie. move on. Then get that one slabbed, but make sure before you commit.
Someone will eventually love to have this coin in their collection, set it free.
We are only here for a limited time, the coin will outlive you and the next owner, give it to a kid maybe, cultivate the hobby.

Please grade minus the scratch / bag mark, then give it a deduction for the marks. Possibly a value in grade. Eg. Ms64 price of a Ms62. It will end up on ebay.

Coin Scavenger: with those photography skills of yours, you can turn the "ugliest" coin into some eye-appealing treasure! If I were looking, I'd totally buy that 1935 $1...
