I was wondering how people buy/trade coins on forums like this (in the buy/sell/trade section). How do they pay? How do they get the coin? Do they pay then ship or ship then pay for the coin? Can the other person be trusted? Is there another way to buy it from them?

I've found with trades, both parties usually ship at the same time, but if it's a first time deal then the person who initiated the trade would ship first. If you are purchasing the coins via PayPal you will have buyer protection with them, but I've found the people around here to be the type who are honest in there doings with their fellow men/women. Plus CCF is not a bridge many would like to burn for a few bucks.

Would this apply to if you are buying from someone not on this forum?

You can figure out the character of those on this site w/@least 10 feedback. I've done strictly cash for my last 20 puchases, good luck!

Possibly. If you're buying from other forums, the rules of etiquette might be similar. If you're buying from other sites, or are conducting a trade from someone through some other means, then there are probably no "set" rules. Be careful, whatever you do.

I've purchased from a member here & I trusted him & there were no problems.
I purchased from a member on another coin site & he lives in Canada & again no problems.
It's a matter of Trust, Faith & Caution. Also go with your gut instinct. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it.
Also use Paypal.

Only spend what you can afford to loose. I've bought here and never had any problems with other members and actually I made a friend here. So my experience has been good thus far.

The thing to do is start buying small, not to expensive coins and send the seller a check. After they get used to your checks, buy a really expensive coin and run. Just kidding of course. So far I've never purchased a coin from here but from what I've read in the past, appears that this is possibly one of the safest places to buy from. Most members have been around for a long time. One thing you could do is note their quantity of posts at the left and if well over a few thousand, you know they've been here for a long time. Not that this could mean or appear to mean honesty, but possibly a real good start at finding someone to trust. I really hate to buy from even a dealer I've never seen in the past. At coin shows I always look for a dealer that has been around for along time. Buying coins is like anything else. If and when you buy a car, house or anything of value, do you know the seller? Usually not.

People buy coins off strangers every day. That happens with ebay, but made easier with PayPal. Generally, most people are mostly honest, but as we all know, that is not always the case. For small amounts, you just take the risk, and if you loose, cop the loss, and become a little wiser. Ultimately, business depends on honesty. If we were all dishonest, society and business as we know it, would cease to exist. That's why I hate so much those who choose to deal dishonestly in business, as well as in personal affairs.

I've sold coins on CCF almost exclusively, here's my thoughts. How do they pay? How do they get the coin? Most of my buyers use paypal. I ship my coins in well-protected bubble mailers (and often in airtites too)Do they pay then ship or ship then pay for the coin? Like most transactions, the money changes hands first. Can the other person be trusted? Is there another way to buy it from them?I've bought and sold here on CCF, and always been happy with my purchases. I offer 14-day money back on my coins--nothing but satisfied customers. I think you have less to worry about buying on CCF than on ebay.

i think you can give people a chance, and yes you can look if they have had any complaints or negative feedback, just play the safe route, and buy insurance if it is a rare and expensive coin.

I just partook in an exchange a 1oz Maple Leaf silver coin for a used Dansco 7070 album. I would be assuming that many veterans of the CCF (like my trading partner) would even be willing to ship their side of the deal first in order to help the newbie (me) trust them. We both mailed ours the same day though since I could tell he had been a member here quite a while and like it has been said he wouldn't want to tarnish his reputation here on the CCF for a few bucks. Just be careful and keep good communication with whoever you attempt to do business with and things should go smoothly.
