I don't don't claim to know how to grade but I do like to see consistancy. Please compare the three NGC coins. The first is MS63, The middle is a MS63 I just got back today and the bottom is a MS64. To my eyes the middle coin is the better of all three. Ofcourse this is benefit of seeing coins in hand. The camera settings and lighting were not changed for any of the pics.

I see what you mean, although the 64 reverse looks the best of the 3. I don't know much about the coins, so not sure what your upside/risk would be vs more grading fees. I agree that your middle 63 obverse looks the best from what I can tell. The 64 might have a little better eye appeal. Hopefully if you ever sell it the buyer will but the "coin."

THe second and third coins seem to be a little more sharply struck. Beard, moustache, hair detail lettering and the '*''s between the 'XX' is more sharply defined, luster is a bit more obvious.

I have to agree with edweather as to if a resubmission for grading is justified.
The difference in the potential value of the coins in grades MS63,64 and 65 also may not justify the cost of fees of a resubmission, in hope of a higher grade.

I can see the luster difference. I guess I might be wondering holder bias as they were all crossed from PCGS and given the same grade PCGS gave them. Perhaps raw it would get a 64. Althou there is more then $100 price swing from 63 to 64 I have five uncirc. sets to put together and I want the coins in each set to match both in grade and appearence.

I believe that when grading mint state coins, PCGS and NGC take luster into account to a great deal. For this reason it's very hard to grade MS63 and above coins with pictures.

I'm guessing that the MS64 coin probably has more luster than the two MS63 coins. To my eyes the middle coins has the best eye appeal and so it's the coin I'd prefer to own.
