I have an idea for a company - a new TPG company that is.

I have no real sentiment or relation to the terms used by modern popular tpgs. The old Sheldon scale is worn out.

The letters "MS", "MS detail", "XF", "AG" and so on are outdated, and often illogical. (Especially "AG". What is that "about good"? How often in a conversation do you refer to something as "about good"?)

None of the popular tpgs give any grade to the eye appeal of a coin either, and we all know that there are some pretty icky coins graded "mint state" like nothing's wrong with them.

I propose the beginning of a new company, and with it a new era of coin grading.

We will refer to coins that would have had a "AU" grade as "PS" (pretty shiny), coins that would be normally graded "Poor" or "Fair" will be graded "BW" (bwahahaha) or "GJ" (get a job).

High grade "MS" coins will be called "AY" (aww yeahhh...) and for those very special rainbow toned or "dmpl" (another asinine abbreviation) specimens, we'll put a note underneath the grade that says "BWYLATSB" (boy will you look at that son of a...).

Aside from that, the grading of eye appeal will be quite simple. If you get a frowny face sticker, your coin is ugly. If you get a smiley face sticker, your coin is pretty.

I suspect that soon I will be quite rich from my new grading service, and I will own many many AY - BWYLATSB coins.

Eye appeal varies from person to person.
Therefore as part of a grading system it won't help.

I really think that a grade is something that two people will agree on, like with transactions between buyer and seller. The seller justifies the price by upselling the good qualities about the coin, and if the buyer can't afford it s/he moves on. Modern grading is just a way to compare one coin from another between dealer to dealer. The buyer ultimately is satisfied with what s/he can afford and the seller lets the coin go at a price that is within his/her comfort level. If you want, go by the number system 0-70 and forget about the wording, it's all the same and it's subjective anyways.

Speaking of subjective my collection is personal and I truly believe that no one would ever want it.
