I just got to thinking today about all the new "errors" from the mint on the Presidential dollars. I think we need a new term for them. My thought is to call them "unannounced mint released limited edition coins". I'm sure the error topic has been addressed here, but how many people actually think all these coins just slipped through the system at the mint? I know that the edge lettering adds an element of added work, but the US and other countries have done it before with with less hoopla. Edited by vipergts2 09/05/2007 2:40 pm

My opinion is the mint had to do something to get more interest in the Presidential dollars. What better way then to "claim" that there are error coins

No, they are error coins. People make mistakes, machines break, thus US Mint Errors.
No conspiracy here. Look elsewhere, say like, in the executive branch of government if you want conspiracies,

I've explained this previously. What most people don't realize is there is a separate department of the government that is affiliated with the Mint. It is not for general release information and after I explain it this time I may probably not be heard of again. This department is the Mint Error Secret Service. Otherwise known as MESS. They are responsible for the manufacturer, distribution, publicizing all error coins and currency. They infiltrate forums like this and advertise all such errors. This is done to popularize all coins so that collectors will rush out and hoard coins and currency therefore guaranteeing the future employment of the Mint Personal. OH,OH. There is a loud knocking at my door.

Put me down as someone who actually thinks they are an error. Ok I will agree that the Washington dollar had a much higher than average error rate, 0.014%, put this was a relatively new process for them and they had to get the proceedures down and work the bugs out. Yes, other coutries do lettered edge coins, but their experience doesn't help our workers, and the US has done lettered edge business strikes before, but not for 170 years, so they are a little out of practice. And they are geing better. The error rate on the Adams coins dropped dramaticly to 0.002% anthe Jeffersons appear to be even lower.

The errors have definitely slowed down withe the Jefferson dollars. I don't think people would have raised such a fuss if "in god we trust" would have not been left off the edge. Maybe they should put in "god we trust" and the mint mark on the coins fields so messed up edges might not cause such a stir. ( the mint mark on the field so we can ID a roll from the end.) I like the edge letters on the coins. I think it adds to the overall appearance And personally I like the errors, I'm just bitter I haven't found any!

Isn't this wrong just carl if that company really does this ? Made me think of the article I found on conspiracy. https://goccf.com/t/18554

i guess they could of made the errors to make people be more interested in them but not me I really dont like newer american coinage.. I think they should put liberty back on the coins and go to the old styles of coins which will spark alot more intrest in coins..
