Forgot to add that copyright issues might play a role as well, to quote extensively from a newer publication would require approval.

Well, the forum member I mailed my money too received it so my drachm will be here shortly. I will make sure to add some pictures.

Ordering a book on crowns and mint marks next! For cost of entry I would like to do a mint mark collection of Shah Khurso 2nd drachms and stick labeld pins into a map of Greater Persia showing the mint cities!

Thanks for all the help!

I am eager to see what you get...

Which Khusro do you want to collect?

If you plan on collecting just mint legends on Khusro II, it wouldn't be a life wasted. Although fascinating you might miss out on the fabulous histories of the other Shahs.

Once the library starts giving me more hours again (Winter is our "dry" session) I might buy one of his daddy, they cost a bit more.

We had an awful history program in my HS and barely covered Canadian history lil'own ancient history. Once I get going I will probably branch off into Byzinteen and other Persian coins.

Reading leads to buying, eh?

Reading leads to buying. Buying leads to reading, which in turn leads to more buying. Next thing you know , you realize you know enough to be dangerous.

You can buy a coin of his daddy (Hormizd 4) for cheap right now. Check out the offerings of ECIN on vcoins. He has oodles of good Sassanian coins for cheap. Limited only by my financial reach, I would have them all!!

Well, it came in the mail today! I couldn't get a good picture of it so here is the one the seller sent me before I bought it. I love it and am selling off some weird odds and ends to help finance some good books on both the coins and the history of the empire.

I too am eager to see the reverse.

Sassanian coins are fun to photograph, and can be tough. Many are preserved in high grades made of good metal that offer lustrous highly reflective surfaces. Very few ancient empires offer such large, higher grade coins for the common man. I really think you chose well in your collecting area, I look forward to seeing your collection, and working along side you in this field.

I cropped the image a bit, would like to see what the reverse looks like. These are a very interesting coin type to collect, I'm just starting with them myself.
