Moroccan Friend Hello and

The pictures are really not adequate to form a complete opinion, but I can give you my thoughts based on what I can see at this time.

First - the coin is basically the correct design and the details looks correct. So it is either genuine or was produced using a transfer image.

Second - the edge application priority appears to be correct as well. The dentils appear to be on top of the edge distortion. If I could clearly see both sides this would rule out most cast copies since they must be edged AFTER they are cast.

Third - you indicate weight is correct so it should weigh 26.9 grams or MORE based on my estimate of wear. If that is confirmed great.

Next I would look at the edge to see a few things:

First is the wear on the edge the same as the other two faces?

Second does the edge design overlap at two points opposite one another?

Third does the edge design look UNIFORM and is it the correct design?

At this point if the coin still looks good in all particulars you should determine the Specific Gravity - that test will eliminate 99% of the base metal or off metal forgeries and counterfeits.

Finally if there remains any suspicion whatsoever - it could be XRF tested looking for traces of gold, silicon and bismuth metals. All three basically must be there in the correct proportions. However, the overall value of this coin may not justify the last step in the process.

Finally one comment about the seller, you say;

This is a man I must meet - I have never known anyone who has NEVER been fooled. Most people who say they can not be fooled are dead wrong and simply will not admit it.

I have always acknowledged that I get attributions wrong at times - we all do. It is our willingness to learn and to modify our theories when alternative scientifically verifiable facts are presented that makes any of us "Professional" at what we do.

Good luck - if the coin is not priced too high you are probably safe with this date. Be suspicious of a bargain or an overpriced cleaned coin.

What grade does the dealer give for the coin and what is the asking price?
