Hello all and thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

I posted in this forum earlier in the year as I was creating an inventory for a coin collection for a long-term Estate Sale that I am running. I recently returned to working on the coin collection again and I came upon this 1936 P Lincoln Penny with an odd gouge on the reverse side. Can someone with more experience that the newbie that I am tell me if this is some sort of error coin or is this damage from circulation? Also, I would appreciate any insight into what could cause this gouge. Thanks again. Rob.

Looks like post mint damage and super questionable color. Looked like it got stuck in some machine but maybe someone with more experience can tell you more. The coin lived a horrible life.

I'm just guessing, but the impressions left on the reverse make me think it was squeezed against another coin or some other object. Perhaps it was used as part of a piece of jewelry or a keychain and then it was pried loose with a knife or chisel near the top around 1 o'clock. But that's just a guess.

Tis a damaged coin and worth 1 cent - as noted on the abused reverse side.
