I read about large and small date 1982. This one looks different then any other I've had. Can some one enlighten me and tell me value please?

The finish is strange and the condition unusual. Seems strange to me.

In order to find out if it copper, it needs to weigh 3.11 and zinc only weighs 2.50...weight can vary just a little bit due to dirt or etc, but will be close enough to know which metal it is made of.

I'd say copper plated zinc as it has the plating blisters common for the Zincolns of that date. And it IS a large date.

Beat me to that one. Exactly what I was going to say.

1982 large date zinc, pretty common coin, but the copper version has a much higher mintage. They really aren't worth much except in very high grades (66 up) or as a complete BU roll.

I'd hang on to it. The Memorial cent is a retired design and although it's unlikely to dry up in circulation anytime soon, these older BU zinc cents will be the first to go. Only about 5-10% of all '82s are zinc, so I would say there is some potential for your coin being worth a buck down the road, just as BU wheat cents are today.

If you go to a coin dealer you can have a popsicle stick with a zinc penny from 1982 and compare the weight of this one. They make them for only one or two dollars each. Works well.
