Because of the design they are sometimes called 'octopus' coins, the inscription on yours is clear so you should be able to determine the specific ruler who issued that coin. The reign was based in Ceylon (modern Sri Lanka) but because they had territory in the southern part of India too, there are so called 'mainland issues' as well.
