I recently found this coin in a bulk lot of foreign coins I had purchased in an online auction.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

All thoughts, comments, opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My first thought that it was an extremely beat up real coin but you would think the devices along the rim would show
near the date. It's not a token, someone stamped 'boss' on the back post mint.

Assuming it's the correct size and if someone put a gun to my head I'd say it's a damaged original.

It is of comparable size and perhaps minutely thinner and slightly larger in diameter, due to being overstruck by "the BOSS" without a collar.

I agree............... What a travesty!

I guess it could be a hole filler for an obverse only facing coin album like an old Whitman!

Great find! There are very few counterstamped 1877 Indians to be found. It took me some years to locate one for my counterstamped date set. I managed to acquire a 1908-S last year, and now I'm down to one ... the 1909-S. If need be, I can punch one up, myself, but I'd rather locate an original!

The OP's find will make a great start for his counterstamped set of Indians!
